The author adapts similar style of story telling as his previous book 'The Rozabal Line'. However, he has avoided the flaws that were there in the other one. The number of characters are less and the incidents are not complicated.
The story has two parts - one that happens 2400 years ago and the present day. In both the stories the protagonists are powerful kingmakers who do not hesitate to do whatever they want in order to achieve their objectives. Although the readers can very well guess the climax in the beginning itself, the story is interesting and gripping.
It is a political thriller written more like a proper screenplay. All the topics are broken down into small mini topics so that the ready doesn't get bored with a very long topic.
Some of the incidents especially that of battles are briefly mentioned whereas there are some unimportant topics for which a lot of pages are merely wasted. This could have been avoided to make this novel further more interesting.
Overall, a good attempt by Ashwin. I enjoyed the book. Let me start reading his next book now.
